The Situation
Bardwell Park Station needed excavation work on a live, operating platform. Closing the station was not permitted, passenger services had to continue uninterrupted, and access to the work area was severely constrained. The proximity to live rail infrastructure meant conventional excavation carried an unacceptable risk of striking and damaging critical assets.
The project demanded a method that could remove a significant volume of material precisely, safely and remotely — without closures, without service disruption, and without any impact on the surrounding rail assets.
Our Approach
Evoro engineered a remote, non-destructive excavation solution built around the site’s constraints. This involved several key steps:
Assess the site and engineer a remote solution
Evaluate the access constraints and live-asset risks, and design a non-destructive approach using high-pressure water and vacuum extraction that could operate from a distance.
Run the operation from an adjacent location
Establish the excavation setup in a neighbouring car park and run 70 metres of vacuum hose to the work area, removing the need for plant or personnel on the live platform itself.
Excavate precisely with no disruption to services
Use hydro excavation to expose and remove material with precision, protecting live rail assets and allowing trains and passengers to keep moving throughout.
The Results
More than 70 tonnes of material were removed and managed compliantly, with no disruption to rail services at any point during the works.
No live rail assets were impacted, and the severe access constraints were overcome by running the operation remotely from an adjacent location.
The project demonstrated Evoro’s core infrastructure capability: delivering complex excavation in the most sensitive, high-risk environments where conventional methods simply can’t go.
